In 2013, Boyan Slat began to question the large volumes of plastic accumulating in our oceans and why no one was doing anything to clean it up. At 16 years old, he began research into potential solutions to effectively recover and remove it

GCX Africa celebrates National Arbor Day with Creating Change and Marine Primary

GCX Africa together with CSI partner Creating Change and a number of corporate sponsors planted 34 trees at Marine Primary.

arbor-day01-451x300Earl Cloete from Spur and ex scholar at Marine Primary was very excited about the positive environmental initiatives at his old school. We interacted with the kids and planted not just trees but a message that “it doesn’t matter where you come from, but what matters is who you choose to be and what we leave behind for future generations.”

Kevin James from GCX Africa was a guest speaker on Friday and complimented the principal on how the school has maintained momentum with their environmental initiatives.  The Principal, Mr. Lawrence said this project ties in with the school’s theme of respect of our environment, which was introduced earlier this year.

A special thanks to our sponsors who sponsored a total of 34 trees: Just Trees, GCX Africa, Spur Corporate, Alive2Green, Incite Sustainability, Cape Villa Collection, Coza Productions, Cathy Ririe, Carmen Lorraine Photography, Pieter and Joey van Niekerk and Free Range Café. Thanks to Nthabiseng and Sandra from GCX Africa who assisted the Creating Change Team in organising the event.
