Lise’s work at GCX Africa is about integrating sustainability across the investment chain - from developing out-the-box solutions for sustainable investment to designing and implementing sustainable business strategies for JSE listed clients. She has worked on a number of Sustainable Investment projects in South Africa and the UK, often with a focus on climate change and institutional investments. As a former senior writer (energy and sustainability) at the Financial Mail, Lise also focusses on effectively communicating the business case for sustainability. Lise has a BComm Honours degree in Economics from the University of Cape Town and an MSc in Environmental Economics and Climate Change from the London School of Economics. In 2014 she spent 6 months in Bhutan with WWF, an experience inspired by a passion for new economic paradigms.

Kevin James
CEO
Kevin founded GCX (then Global Carbon Exchange) in 2006 and is the lead sustainability strategist driving innovation across the company’s significant client base. His life as an entrepreneur has seen him position companies at the forefront of innovation waves, including founding (and successfully selling) an internet company in the 90’s. Today, GCX is driving the next innovation wave of the convergence of IT, business, and sustainability by supporting South Africa’s largest companies in deriving tangible business value by integrating sustainability strategies into their operations. He has played a leading role in the growth of South Africa’s sustainability industry and enjoys a regular slot on national radio where he comments on issues relating to climate change, sustainability and current affairs.

Marnus van der Merwe
Project Manager
Marnus is a team player who enjoys hands-on work across a diverse field at GCX – from project managing integrated waste management projects to carbon disclosure projects. Marnus is an MPhil Sustainable Development Planning and Management graduate from the University of Stellenbosch; he did his thesis on Integrated Aquaculture and Crop Systems. Marnus has certifications in aquaculture, project management and financial planning. With a background in agriculture and mining in Sub-Saharan Africa where he worked on several integrated development projects, Marnus has a passion for sustainable development in Sub-Saharan Africa, specifically the bottom of the pyramid sector.

Dave Baxter
Sustainability Reporting Specialist
Dave works with JSE listed companies on various facets of sustainability, with a focus on environmental issues and report writing. He has co-authored several sustainability reports, contributed to both CDP Climate and CDP Water and provided research support for sustainability strategy engagements; he has worked as a research analyst on the JSE SRI Index; and was previously an independent carbon consultant. He currently writes Zip Zap circus’ integrated report and sits on the board of management at Imhoff Waldorf School. In a previous life, Dave spent 11 years in retail, culminating in a successful stint as planning manager of Kidswear at Woolworths. He has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, a Masters in Molecular Engineering, and a BPhil in Sustainable Development and Planning from the Sustainability Institute in Stellenbosch.
